Controversy On Ambleside West Vancouver Condo Developing Proposal

A new developing proposal on 1300-block Marine Drive led to a debate among West Vancouver residents in Ambleside. According to the news, some residents concerned about that the two (one will be 7-story and the other will be 8-story) buildings will block the waterview because they will be just too close to the waterfront.

While some said Ambleside is in desperate need of revitalization and would support the development if the buildings were scaled back, others were adamantly opposed to the idea. Those who strongly opposed said that that high density development in Ambleside would be an unwanted precedent for further development.

Others weren’t as critical, saying the buildings were designed well and fit into West Vancoulver’s Official Community Plan that states buildings over four storeys should be looked into for the site.

Currently on that site, there are small commercial buildings and an empty lot, and West Vancouver Police Department, which will be moved into a new building beside district hall.

According to the proposal, the two new buildings would accommodate 88 residential units and 23 store fronts. So on the ground level there would be retail spaces. The residential units would be on the top levels. There would be a 300 parking stalls underground. The developer, Grosvenor believes that the project would attract more Vancouver home buyers to resident in Ambleside. More businesses would be created.

Some West Vancouver real estate agents believed that that project would become a great opportunity for developing Ambleside community by taking up those increasing vacant lots and empty retail stores which otherwise already happening. I believe that most Ambleside home owners would love to foresee potential property value increasing because of that developing.
